Athlete Spotlight: Alicity

What made you choose CrossFit True?

I choose True because I liked that my first experience was an info session and not a random workout.

What made me stay was the support of Jess and Sue during my first training session. 

They cheered me on the whole way. Id never had that kind of support during a workout.

How long have you been training with us?

1 Year and 7 months, since March 2020

What has been your proudest moment in the past 90 days?

Finishing “Cobra” 10/22/21 RX.

 I finished with a second to go but that second meant the world to me. I thought I would go RX and give it a shot and see how far I got not thinking I would finish. I wouldn’t have finished scaled last year.  

When you’re not at the gym, what do you do for work? What do you do for fun?

I’m in the finance department  for Aspire nonprofit that runs group homes for the intellectually disabled. I handle all benefits (DSS & SSA) for our individuals as well as petty cash for our homes and schools. 

Im pretty low key, I like to  bake, spend time with family or find a good book or audio book and curl up on the coach. I’m also a scifi and science geek so I may ditch the book for Star Trek. When I go out I’m still in geek mode and love places like Dave & Busters and bowling. Axe throwing is a new fav. 

How is your nutrition? How has it changed since joining CrossFit True?

Nutrition is the one are I need to work on the most. 

I’ve gotten out of the fad and restrictive diet headspace and focused on trying to eat 3 time a day which is great for me as I use to jump on every diet trend and when I wasn’t I ate once a day. 

I’d like to learn more about macros and calorie intake so I can create meal plans that fit me and what I body needs.

Deadlifts

Power Cleans

What is your favorite style workout? (AMRAP, EMOM, Rounds for Time, etc)

Partner workouts & EMOM or on the 2:00min

What about your favorite workout?

Barbell Complexes like the Open 21.4.

Have you changed physically or mentally since you’ve been working out with us?

Most definitely!

Physically I’ve lost 40lbs and I look noticeably different.

Mentally I’ve gotten into the mindset of doing my own workout. 

It use to make me sad that I couldn’t keep up with the group or not being able to do as much an RX athlete but I know now that it’s not about that. It’s about doing what I can, getting stronger and improving. I do what I can now so I can do what they do later. 

What are your current goals?

  1. To get stronger – work on mobility, technique and drop body fat.

  2. Pull Ups

  3. Box Jumps

How have your goals changed since you joined? 

Everything was about weight loss when I started. 

That slowly changed to working on the things that I couldn’t do or do well and getting stronger.

I stopped focusing on my weight and lost a ton.

What has been the biggest surprise since joining CF True?

How fast things have changed with me! Mind, body and spirit.

I feel like a different person.

What can you do now that you couldn’t do before joining?

So many things! 

I think burpees and running are the biggest.

I’m so happy I found a place that I love and look forward to going to everyday.

That’s all due to the coaches and my fellow fitters that have become my gym fam. This safe place that has been created by Team True and support they give me has pushed me to want more and break outside of my comfort zone. Thank you all so much.
