What made you choose CrossFit True?
At the time, I was looking for direction on how to better myself. I went to a traditional gym trying to exercise and figure out what was good for me. I found that lack of structure wasn’t working and needed a helping hand. I was searching around the area for a place that can give someone accountability. After my No Sweat Intro with Moe and personal training with Mia, I knew Crossfit True was the place I can grow. My biggest regret is not finding this gym years sooner.
How long have you been training with us?
I have been a part of Crossfit True for 13 months altogether. I remember my first day of personal training was December 26th, 2024. I can easily say I will be a part of this community a lot longer.
What has been your proudest moment in the past 90 days?
I’d say finally becoming skillful at Kipping Pull-Ups. Seeing results in my grip strength and mobility really increased my self-confidence.
When you’re not at the gym, what do you do for work? What do you do for fun?
I work for my Alma Mater Quinnipiac University. Specifically, I manage their Polling Institute of over 200 direct reports. I am responsible for overseeing their performance. For fun, I love going for walks, doing Yoga at Quinnipiac every now and then, going for a massage at the spa, spending time with two of my wonderful nieces, reading philosophical books, going out for Italian food, and exploring new places.
How is your nutrition? How has it changed since joining CrossFit True?
My nutrition compared to when I started is remarkable. Ever since I began at Crossfit True, I prioritized my daily protein intake to roughly 150 grams or close to that. I love going to Thyme and Season in Hamden for healthy meals. It’s so gratifying to be healthy!
What are your 3 favorite movements/exercises?
-Deadlifting! Olympic lifting overall is such a fun skill to practice.
-Kipping Pull-Ups. Doing something I couldn’t do before is very rewarding.
–DB Floor Press. Getting over the hump of lifting heavier weights is awesome!
What is your favorite style workout? (AMRAP, EMOM, Rounds for Time, etc)
EMOM. That kind of structure really pushes you to meet your goal with limited time. I believe you push yourself the most when you’re under pressure. This kind of workout shows your true colors when time and your mind is your enemy.
What about your favorite workout?
There are a lot of workouts, so it is hard to pick and choose. To my memory, EMOM workouts that involve a minute of cardio into olympic lifting (e.g. deadlifting or power cleans) really tests your physical and mental endurance. DB Floor presses afterward help because while you get to lay on the floor for rest, you still have to push yourself.
Any favorite workout songs?
The coaches at Crossfit True have good taste. My favorite workout songs I’d say are ACDC, 80’s music, 2000’s jams, and 2010 Pop is fun too. Anything loud that can make you hyper is good enough for me.
Have you changed physically or mentally since you’ve been working out with us?
Physically and mentally, most definitely.
Physically, crossfit has opened my eyes to what’s possible. I never thought I could do the things I do now in a gym.
Mentally, crossfit has helped me get out of my head and into my body. It has helped me be comfortable in my own skin and all the more self-confident.
What are your current goals?
To always better myself. I want to eventually master C2b pull-ups at some point and do workouts consistently with RX weights.
How have your goals changed since you joined?
They have for sure. When I started, my goal was to survive a workout. Now I’d say my goal is to keep thriving with the community. I don’t have that stress of going to a gym worrying about exercises anymore.
What has been the biggest surprise since joining CF True?
I’d say being able to deadlift close to 2x my body weight. Before joining, I never had experience with doing advanced exercises. My biggest surprise is realizing what I’m capable of.
What can you do now that you couldn’t do before joining?
Do sets of burpees without faltering.
Say something else, Anything!
I can’t be thankful enough for what Crossfit True has done for me. It has helped me in more ways than it’ll ever know. The coaches here have taught me things I never had experience in. The community I can workout with is a lot of fun to be around. It’s a place you can go to no matter your level of experience. When you break through your glass ceiling, this gym gives you another one to break. That accountability and structure is what I’ve always wanted.
