Athlete Spotlight: Arielle

What made you choose CrossFit True?

  • I had been going to Planet Fitness for a while and was getting tired of the same workouts and not challenging myself enough…or really knowing how to challenge myself. I remember a friend had done crossfit in the past and she loved it so I decided to look into gyms around my job in Hamden. I came across CrossFit True and did the initial free consult and really liked what I heard. Going through the six week program with Coach Nic was great and I really felt at home! 

How long have you been training with us?

  • It has been a little over a year! 

What has been your proudest moment in the past 90 days?

  • Making it to workout for the 5:45 pm class after work even though it was already dark and the only thing I really wanted to do was go home and get warm. Fighting through the “hibernation” feelings. 

When you’re not at the gym, what do you do for work? What do you do for fun?

  • I am a healthcare attorney. Outside of work and Crossfit, I love anything Disney related (movies, puzzles, actually going there), watching football (Go Packers!), hanging out with my niece and nephew (they appreciate the fact that I started CF because I can now lift them both at the same time ;-)), and hanging out with friends. I also have two adorable kitties that I enjoy bothering. 

How is your nutrition? How has it changed since joining CrossFit True?

  • My nutrition has been off and on again. I have been working with Moe on settling into a routine and forming healthy habits that I can maintain as opposed to crash dieting or eating healthy for a period of time and then stopping. Overall, I have created a more healthy relationship with food, my thoughts about it, and how it fits in with exercising. 

What are your 3 favorite movements/exercises? 

  • Bench/floor/push press and dumbbell snatches. 

What is your favorite style workout? (AMRAP, EMOM, Rounds for Time, etc)

  • I have been really digging EMOMs lately. 

What about your favorite workout?

  • Can’t think of any particular workout, but I love the strength building days with dumbbells, EMOM style. 

Any favorite workout songs? 

  • So I do like a lot of the songs because they get me pumped up, but I listen to country music 99% of the time outside of CF and I’m not familiar with a lot of the song names 😉 

Have you changed physically or mentally since you’ve been working out with us?

  • Yes to both! I view working out and nutrition differently and see working out as more of a gift and less of a chore. I love being able to see what my body can do and how it can improve over time. 

What are your current goals?

  • Form habits and routines that are life long that can help me maintain a healthy weight and a healthy mindset. 

How have your goals changed since you joined? 

  • They are essentially the same, but now it’s more about the journey and learning and less about rushing to try to reach the goal. 

What has been the biggest surprise since joining CF True?

  • How much I actually enjoy working out in a class. When I went to Planet Fitness, I would avoid contact with anyone at all costs, would keep my Airpods in, and would keep to myself. I really like the group atmosphere and how it pushes me to work even harder. 

What can you do now that you couldn’t do before joining?

  • Being able to lift a lot more weight. At the other gym, I would typically stick to 10 and 15 lb dumbbells and would never even consider going up. I have been using the 30 lb dumbbells lately for certain workouts and feel more comfortable doing so. I guess I am more likely to try heavier weights.

  • My friends make fun of me because they say I talk about Crossfit so much, but joining has been one of the best decisions I have made. The community is great and super supportive and I love being able to talk about fitness and nutrition and not be judged.
