Athlete Spotlight: Chandra

What made you choose CrossFit True?

CrossfitTrue is my first ever gym. I never thought I would even touch a barbell as I was under an assumption that it is very heavy and could hurt myself when I work out with them. Thanks to my friend (from another gym) who referred me to CrossFit. I saw his videos and thought I can give it a try. 

How long have you been training with us?

About 3 years

What has been your proudest moment in the past 90 days?

I’m doing some running with my friends on Saturdays and I can see that my training at CFtrue is helping me to get better. I am a lot quicker/better runner now.

When you’re not at the gym, what do you do for work? What do you do for fun?

For work I am a resource manager at an IT consulting company. For fun, I listen to music, watch football (big fan of Patriots team), watch movies, I like driving, stay outdoors whenever weather permits. 

How is your nutrition? How has it changed since joining CrossFit True?

Nutrition has not changed much. I have cut down on taking high calorie food/snacks as I know how tough it is to burn them. 

What are your 3 favorite movements/exercises? 

  1. Box jumps 
  2. Russian Kettlebell swings 
  3. Push Jerks

What is your favorite style workout? (AMRAP, EMOM, Rounds for Time, etc)

AMRAP

What about your favorite workout?

Never a dull day at the gym and I like almost all workouts but I like it when there is a bit of running/rowing and box jumps. 

Any favorite workout songs? 

Music is another incentive to work out in the gym. I missed it while working out from home during the pandemic. (I like it when volume is high though)

Have you changed physically or mentally since you’ve been working out with us?

Yes, I used to feel tired even after a few hours at work. After joining CFTrue, I feel a lot stronger, I have very good night sleep now.

What are your current goals?

  1. Increase the workout days
  2. Lift heavier weights while maintaining form.
  3. Run faster 

How have your goals changed since you joined? 

To be honest, I never thought I would continue for these many days when I first joined. My goal at that time was to just show up. Now my goal is to do better than what I did last time. 

What has been the biggest surprise since joining CF True?

Workout is Fun at CF True- it’s like having fun and getting fitter at the same time. 

What can you do now that you couldn’t do before joining?

Box jumps were very intimidating. I am happy that I can do it now.

Everything with the barbell- Deadlifts, push press, push jerks etc.
