Athlete Spotlight: Erin

What made you choose CrossFit True?

My friends convinced me to join- it’s something I thought about in the past but I thought I was too old and out of shape- but they convinced me to try. One of the best decisions I’ve made for myself.


How long have you been training with us?

Since Jan 2022, but more dedicated since October 2022, once I started attending 5:30 am classes. 

What has been your proudest moment in the past 90 days?

Wow. So many. Showing up, even when I’ve been exhausted or sore, but my first Open was definitely a high point. 

When you’re not at the gym, what do you do for work? What do you do for fun?

I’m a teacher, an NCAA Women’s lacrosse and field hockey referee, I paint, write, read and search for mushrooms. I love the outdoors have a million interests!

How is your nutrition? How has it changed since joining CrossFit True?

My nutrition has improved, and I’m extra cognizant of my eating times, especially having to go to bed so early to get up for the 5:30 AM wod. I’ve increased my protein intake and be sure to drink enough water everyday. Refereeing puts a big strain on my body as well, so eating right is important for me to feel good and have enough energy to get through the day.

What are your 3 favorite movements/exercises?

Rowing, deadlift, and any sort of box step with dumbbells.


What is your favorite style workout? (AMRAP, EMOM, Rounds for Time, etc)

I like Amrap because I love to see how far I can push myself.

What about your favorite workout?

Anything with a row and a barbell.

Any favorite workout songs? 

Get Low – Lil John. I’m not sure how much I even liked that song before CrossFit!

Have you changed physically or mentally since you’ve been working out with us?

Both. I’m stronger, more athletic,  and have more energy through the day. My sleep is more consistent and I can feel what my body needs (rest, fuel, water) more accurately. Mentally, I feel more confident and strong – showing up for myself is not only an indicator of my new discipline, but of my love for myself.

What are your current goals?

Increasing my strength further, especially upper body and overhead movements.

How have your goals changed since you joined? 

Yes, my main goal before was to get healthy and stronger, increasing  bone density and muscle.

I still have those goals, but in addition, I’ve been tracking every work out in the past seven months, being able To track my data and my improvements on each workout.

What has been the biggest surprise since joining CF True?

Everyone is so welcoming, and I notice when new  people start CrossFit, everyone is so kind to them. I love that everyone is there to support other members in their growth, whatever their goals are. I also thought there was no way I could ever go to a 5:30 AM work out, that it was way too early, and the people who did it were way too hard-core. I surprised myself after one week and how much I loved it. It’s the best way to start the day.

What can you do now that you couldn’t do before joining?

Referee I have to run up and down the field sometimes 4 to 5 miles per game, and I noticed in my first few games that I was much lighter on my feet and much faster. Usually I struggle those first few games until I get in better shape, but I was already in amazing shape when the season started. Also, I look more athletic and fit. 

I can lift weights now! Lol
