What made you choose CrossFit True?

-Peer presssure. Allison and I have been friends since working out together at a different gym just before we each had our first kids. She convinced me to come to a bring-a-friend day a while back but it took a few more months to convince me to give up sleeping in every day and sign up.  In addition to being an avid runner, I have done CrossFit type classes on and off over the last 10 years but during and after the pandemic (and two kids), I found it hard to stay consistent on my own and I was unhappy with how I felt. Allison gave me the push I needed and it felt good to get back into a routine!

How long have you been training with us?

-One year as of early April.

What has been your proudest moment in the past 90 days?

-Finally getting toes to bar and linking a few together! I never thought I’d be able to do that!

When you’re not at the gym, what do you do for work? What do you do for fun?

-I’m an insurance defense attorney. For fun, I enjoy being outside and playing my daughters, hiking,  running, audiobooks, red wine, espresso martinis, and of course going to Disney.

How is your nutrition? How has it changed since joining CrossFit True?

– Not the worst, not the best. I have celiac disease so I spent most of my 20s and 30s worried about what and when I’d be able to eat, constantly having to plan ahead for any meal out, packing my own food or eating at home in advance of going out with friends. I’ve eaten more than my fair share soggy unsatisfying salads… Now that gluten free living is a bit easier I may have over corrected a bit in the snack department, but I’m working on making healthier choices and experimenting with salads that don’t involve leaves. Since joining CrossFit True, I’d say I’m hungrier in the mornings after the workout so I’m making a conscious choice to get a good amount of protein in the morning. And I NEVER skip breakfast.

What are your 3 favorite movements/exercises?

  • Everyone is going to hate me for this, but any amount of running, burpees and deadlifts.

What is your favorite style workout? (AMRAP, EMOM, Rounds for Time, etc)

-It’s so hard to choose! I love an EMOM with rest built it or an AMRAP but I’m notoriously bad at counting.

What about your favorite workout?

-Literally anything with running.

Any favorite workout songs?

-Really anything, I love virtually all music. You will often catch me singing to myself … which is one of the many reasons why I lose count… My current fave for a workout is Takedown from K-pop Demon Hunters. Don’t judge! It’s a vibe.

Have you changed physically or mentally since you’ve been working out with us?

-Physically, I know I’ve gained a lot of strength. I can lift heavier than ever before and I am running faster than I have in a long time.  I can also see the physical changes in my quads and shoulders and feel it in the way my clothes fit. Mentally, I’m working on shifting my focus from the weight  on the scale to the weight on the bar and accepting my body for what it can do versus how big or how small I should be. I’ve gained a lot of confidence in the gym too and unlocking a bunch of new skills that I previously thought out of my reach has been so fun!

What are your current goals?

  • I’d really like to be able to do an unassisted pull up one day, otherwise I’m really looking forward to finding out my 1RM for the back squat since I was dealing with a stupid broken finger last time around.

How have your goals changed since you joined?

I’m more focused on figuring out what I can do and what is possible as opposed to comparing myself to others and feeling like I should be able to do something. I’m very competitive by nature but I’ve shifted that to be more inward so I push myself. But I’m still going to chase people down when running…

What has been the biggest surprise since joining CF True?

-Not gonna lie, the first time I got toes to bar I was shocked. And I think it has a lot to do with the flexibility and mobility I’ve maintained as I’ve gotten older. I never realized what a difference it would make until it helped unlock some of these new skills.

What can you do now that you couldn’t do before joining?

-So many things! Double unders, kipping, toes to bar,  just to name a few!

Say something else, Anything!

-I feel like I’m glowing in the dark if I’m not wearing something black.
