What made you choose CrossFit True?

Many times, friends & people who know me and what a “gym rat” I’ve been have encouraged my to try CrossFit; they said I’d love it.

I saw an advertisement on FB, liked what I saw &  read, and I found it inspiring & motivating.  I was also inspired by the 6-wk No-Sweat Intro! 

I took advantage of checking out CF True right before my 50th birthday in March because I didn’t want to be a frumpy 50-yr-old; I wanted to get back to my former routine of working out, improve on what I used to do, improve my health, energy, diet, lifestyle.

How long have you been training with us?

I started in February 2020, so I’ve been a steady “crossfitter” for almost 1.5 years now!

What has been your proudest moment in the past 90 days?

Hmmm … that would have to be the Benchmark WOD, Murph!  I shaved off NINE minutes from 2020-2021 ( 70:20 vs. 61:26)

I also have to mention: 

  1.  PR on Jun 3rd:  HEAVY DAY – BACK SQUATS @ 133# — I can’t remember previous weight but I think I may have doubled what I’ve squatted since starting CF (FYI: heaviest squat pbly 20 yrs. Ago @ 165#)

  2. “Skin the Cat” … I was shocked that I was able to actually do it, although I was soooo nauseous for a long time after the workout, I made it through the entire WOD!

When you’re not at the gym, what do you do for work? What do you do for fun?

I’m a Chemistry teacher @ James Hillhouse High in New Haven, CT.   Teaching is demanding & high stress!

Working out @ CFT of course!  Also, H-D rides with John & the Gang, going to MB, SC (beach, ocean = FAV!!), enjoying family (especially playing with my niece & nephews/strengthening our relationships), cookouts/gatherings/hanging with friends, being outdoors/hiking*, etc, movies*, reading* 

*(I haven’t made a lot of time for these lately)

How is your nutrition? How has it changed since joining CrossFit True?

My nutrition is OK, challenging … I’m constantly stressing on eating right, and eating enough to have energy throughout the day, especially for the challenging CF WOD’s!  I’m concerned that my nutrition still needs work because of fluctuations in energy throughout the day, and in trying to change my body composition.

What are your 3 favorite movements/exercises? 

I like most of the BB movements … my fav’s are probably the various types of Cleans, Front Squats, & Benching.  I particularly enjoyed the ones where we worked of the Rig and spotted each other.

What is your favorite style workout? (AMRAP, EMOM, Rounds for Time, etc)

I like them all, the variations but I guess the EMOM’s may be my FAV!

What about your favorite workout?

Hmmm …. My memory is terrible!  I’ve been flipping through Sugar WOD, and I’ll update this if I find any.  ‍♀️  ‍♀️

Any favorite workout songs? 

I do but none are coming to mind right now. ‍♀️  ‍♀️  I like music with a lot of bass.

I’ll also update this if I think of any.

Have you changed physically or mentally since you’ve been working out with us?

Absolutely!  I see the changes & definition in my body, as well as that I’m much more tone.  I really noticed my upper body …. arms & shoulders, & my waist is definitely “tighter” … in the mirror all the time.  

That, in turn, pushes me further, mentally.  I am COMMITTED to get better every day, just like one of our CF True shirts state!

What are your current goals?

Continue to remain COMMITTED, &  get better every day … more specifically, top 3:

  1. get leaner, more defined muscles/body composition, which of course, is mostly diet. ‍♀️

  2. get stronger (get those T2B’s!!!)

  3. improve on my form on movements where I’m “sloppy”

How have your goals changed since you joined? 

I’m not sure about this one because I think they’re pretty much the same, except to be consistent.  I am consistent & committed in that I usually work out at least 5 days/wk.  I hope to, at least, maintain this when school starts in a couple of weeks! ‍♀️

I can say that I’m more motivated, committed & determined to remain “on track” with these goals, and to not get discouraged … the coaches all make a lot of uplifting points:  

  • the “little/small wins”

  • changing mindsets from “I only” to “I made it through ….”

What has been the biggest surprise since joining CF True?

How much I enjoy CF, the team spirit & workouts, & the guidance of the coaches.

I am also very touched & motivated by the attentiveness of the coaches, and of the members to each other … we all push each other & help each other push our limits.

What can you do now that you couldn’t do before joining?

Hmmm … probably all of the olympic lifting movements, stuff I’d never would be doing without CF … I don’t think I was aware of a lot of this & how different it is from working out at a “regular” gym!

When I first heard Coach Moe stating that we’re doing “olympic lifting”, I was impressed with myself!
