What made you choose CrossFit True?
I had begun to realize that I needed to make some changes to improve my health and started to look around for a gym that would help me achieve those goals. CrossFit True seemed like the place after doing some research.

I am a medical director. The company I work with partners with pharmaceutical companies to educate and raise awareness about treatments and unmet needs related to those diseases. For the last 5-7 years I’ve worked predominantly in rare disease and now I’m doing more work on HIV and community advocacy/needs.
For fun, I mostly spend time chasing around my kids and when I can I have a ceramics class I take at Creative Arts Workshop in New Haven.

Have you changed physically or mentally since you’ve been working out with us?
I have changed physically and mentally a lot. When I joined, I had it in my head (mostly from my PCP) that I needed to lose weight; however, while I’ve lost some weight I’ve really changed the way my body looks and feels the most. I have a lot more energy, I’m stronger, and much more flexible in ways I hadn’t thought about than when I started.
Mentally, I am much better about managing my effort during workouts to make the most of them. It’s also something that’s influenced how I am at work and has helped me to establish a much better work-life balance.
–
What are your current goals?
Current goals are to do double unders (I’m starting to get there) and to do kipping pull-ups without stopping after everyone.
I am also working on handstands with Mia.
–
How have your goals changed since you joined?
I’ve realized that my weight is less of a concern to me than the way that my body functions.
–
What has been the biggest surprise since joining CF True?
When I first joined I thought it would be the start of a journey that began in spurts with starts and stops. It’s been really great that I’ve been able to establish and maintain a routine and commitment to coming to class and being healthy.
–
What can you do now that you couldn’t do before joining?
Lots of stuff. Most of the things that surprise me happen outside of class, like the times when my dog has escaped the yard and I’ve had to track or chase him down. There will usually be a moment when I realize I wouldn’t have been able to jump over some brush to grab him or that after jogging around for an hour I would have been dead but am still going. Same goes for my kids: Tracking and chasing them down has been world’s different since joining CrossFit True.

Say something else, Anything!
There’s a quote about the gym, “if you let it, this place will change you,” or something like that and it’s the most true thing ever.
