What made you choose CrossFit True?
Honestly? Pure luck. I had just finished my undergrad and I was BORED. I googled “gyms near me” and couldn’t believe this one was basically in my backyard. The rainbow flag made me feel like this could be a safe space for Tori and I, and Moe was lovely so I decided to give it a shot and haven’t looked back since!
Also Mia showed up like halfway through my intake and yapped at me about the gym for like an hour and who could say no to that sell? An icon.
How long have you been training with us?
Since June of 2024 – so a little over a year now!
What has been your proudest moment in the past 90 days?
I’m first and foremost proud of how long I’ve stuck with this! I have been to a lot of gyms over the years and I just never really felt like I belonged and would eventually quit. This has been a completely different experience since the start. True is an amazing community that I genuinely love being a part of, so it makes it easy, but I’m still super proud that I keep coming back.
But aside from the love and rainbows, I’ve also crushed some really huge weight goals in the last few months! I set goals for myself earlier this year that I saw as super heavy and intimidating. I intended for my goals to scare me and to keep me chasing them for a little while – but I’ve already surpassed a number of them! I’m super proud that I pushed myself so hard and I love that I keep surprising myself! (Also special shoutout to the coaches, 5:45pm class, Tori, and Elaine for pushing me when I didn’t think I was capable of more. Y’all believe in me when I don’t – and it makes me better!)
When you’re not at the gym, what do you do for work? What do you do for fun?
I started graduate school at Southern in August and I work as the graduate assistant there. It’s been keeping me busy!
For fun? Nothing. I am notoriously not fun
That said, I recently became your Regional Connecticut Steinholding Champion (just following in Mia’s footsteps, here) so if you wanna come hangout and watch me hold a beer for fame (state champion title) and glory ($500 and a free beer) then let me know and I’ll get you the details!
How is your nutrition? How has it changed since joining CrossFit True?
My nutrition has definitely taken on an elevated status in my life, but some days are better than others (we’ll call it balance)! Both Tori and I have big goals when it comes to our Crossfit gains so we like to take our nutrition into account to help us achieve them. That said, yah girl is busy so Crocktober is about to come in very clutch (send me your fav recipes)!
What are your 3 favorite movements/exercises?
I do love a barbell and chasing a heavy lift. I love a squat, especially a back squat or squat clean – they’re just so fun! I also like deadlifts, split jerks, and floor presses.
I’m loath to admit this but I have also been – very lightly – starting to explore being on the rig more and have been working on my knees to chest. Baby steps!
And, (please don’t hate me – I know it’s weird!) I kind of don’t hate a reasonable amount of wall balls??
What is your favorite style workout? (AMRAP, EMOM, Rounds for Time, etc)
EMOM for sure.
I love a workout with a built in rest period because yah girl needs to catch her breath!

Any favorite workout songs?
I don’t know, something loud? I usually kind of zone out for the workout and I don’t really see or hear things so as long as it keeps moving, then so do I!
Have you changed physically or mentally since you’ve been working out with us?
I’ve absolutely gotten stronger physically and True has been really good for my mental health as well. I definitely trust my body more and know that I’m way more capable than I may have previously given myself credit for – and I think that’s pretty cool.
What are your current goals?
Currently, I still have a number of barbell goals I am looking forward to achieving, most notably I’m really excited to see what I can back squat this cycle compared to last!
I also want to get more comfortable on the rig!
How have your goals changed since you joined?
I didn’t necessarily come into the gym with any real goals beyond getting in some exercise and hopefully being a little healthier. I think I got Tori to agree to do this so we wouldn’t die early and we could hang out longer lol. But since then I have really fallen in love with getting stronger and that has definitely been at the forefront of my goals (right next to not dying for sure).
What has been the biggest surprise since joining CF True?
Kind of all of it? I had no idea I could do the things I’ve done and have fun doing it! I also didn’t know I was this strong and that’s pretty cool too!
Also, all of the friends I’ve made. You all have made this year such a bright, hilarious, and wonderful adventure. I’m really grateful to all of you – and I’m having so much fun! I can’t believe I got this lucky in life. Thank you for that! <3
