What made you choose CrossFit True?
When I moved to Hamden I looked around at all the local gyms and landed on True because it seemed the most welcoming. After meeting with Moe for an intro and then Mia for foundations I knew I was in the right place.
How long have you been training with us?
Since fall 2022 (almost 1.5 years)
What has been your proudest moment in the past 90 days?
Too many to list but here are some highlights; Becoming a coach, watching my 1 year old cheer for her mom during the CrossFit Open, RXing 2 Open workouts, hitting deadlift and back squat PRs, and tackling some of my social anxieties.
When you’re not at the gym, what do you do for work? What do you do for fun?
I’ve worked a wide range of jobs, all focused on protecting and restoring nature. In my current role, I bring business and conservation leaders together to advance nature strategies at the world’s largest companies. In the past I studied the impacts of climate change on wild animals, managed forests and wetlands, and worked with dolphins and gorillas at Walt Disney World. Outside of work I love spending time with my family, hiking, birding, gardening, playing video games, and personal finance.
How is your nutrition? How has it changed since joining CrossFit True?
In a good place, more consistent since joining True. For the most part I eat what feels good and keeps me energized. About once a year I’ll measure and track macros for a few weeks to recalibrate. Over the next few years I’d like to fully transition to protein options that are better for the planet.
What are your 3 favorite movements/exercises?
Deadlifts, burpee pull ups, Russian KBS, heavy farmers carry, shuttle runs/short sprints. (I couldn’t pick just three)
What is your favorite style workout? (AMRAP, EMOM, Rounds for Time, etc)
Chipper or a long 30+ min workout of any kind
What about your favorite workout?
I don’t have a favorite but I love warm-weather workouts when we get outside.
Any favorite workout songs?
Anything fast-paced with heavy bass
Have you changed physically or mentally since you’ve been working out with us?
For sure! My weight, body fat %, and heart rate have stabilized after several years of wildly fluctuating up and down. Mentally, this is the first time in a long time that I feel connected to a place and don’t have the urge to pick up and move.
What are your current goals?
RX Murph and Chad this year, backsquat 200lbs, expand coaching skills, and make everyone fall in love with rucking ????
How have your goals changed since you joined?
When I started, my goals were focused on getting to the gym more than once/week bc I just wasn’t prioritizing my health at that time. Now, going to the gym is second nature so I can focus on improving my skills, endurance and strength.
What has been the biggest surprise since joining CF True?
I had done CrossFit on and off for 10 years before moving to CT but never quite fit into the community. I was surprised to find a queer-friendly gym so close to home full of people I absolutely love spending time with.
What can you do now that you couldn’t do before joining?
Handstand kick-ups, deadlift 2x my bodyweight, consecutive toes-to-bar, and ask for a spotter without feeling embarrassed!
