Athlete Spotlight: Autumn

What made you choose CrossFit True?

Well, I worked at a cycling studio that really got me into fitness. I was there a long time and was heartbroken when it closed due to the pandemic. I needed a new fitness community. Luckily, ny mom has been coming to CrossFit True for a LONG time, so I joined in on the fun. I loved the idea of working out with a barbell and lifting, so I was happy to try something new! 

How long have you been training with us?

About a year and a half. 

What has been your proudest moment in the past 90 days?

Probably getting more consistent with my kipping pull-ups and double-unders! 

When you’re not at the gym, what do you do for work? What do you do for fun?

I work as a social worker for people with severe mental illness. I am also getting my masters in clinical psychology! For fun, I like to go out to dinner/drinks, watch Modern Family or Parks and Rec, or go to Target! 

How is your nutrition? How has it changed since joining CrossFit True?

Not too bad! I have been working on monitoring my eating a bit more than I have in the past and am making sure I eat my veggies! However, balance is key and so I also get to eat the things I love when I want to (pasta!). 

What are your 3 favorite movements/exercises? 

#1 Back Squats, #2 Squat Cleans, and #3 Push Jerks. Also the BIKE! 

What is your favorite style workout? (AMRAP, EMOM, Rounds for Time, etc)

Either EMOM or RFT! 

What about your favorite workout?

BY FAR the EMOM workout that was 4cals on bike and one heavy deadlift. I LOVE short and quick calories on the bike. 

Any favorite workout songs? 

I really like any song I can recognize and sing-a-long to. Like popular rap, pop, or EDM songs.

Have you changed physically or mentally since you’ve been working out with us?

I have definitely become much stronger physically. Coming from a cycling background, my upper body was definitely lacking when I first got here. Now, I can feel the difference in how much stronger my upper body is compared to before CrossFit. 

What are your current goals?

I want to continue working on skills like pull-ups, box jumps, double-unders, and T2B. I am scared of being upside down, so eventually I gotta work on the handstand stuff! 

How have your goals changed since you joined? 

When I joined, I was focused on lifting heavy and gaining strength (mostly in my legs because that is where I felt most comfortable). Now, I also am focused on gaining skills and becoming a more well-rounded athlete. 

What has been the biggest surprise since joining CF True?

I was surprised by how supportive everyone has been. I heard a lot of negative things about CrossFit before joining, like it was competitive, high pressure, and culty. I am happy with how supportive and positive everyone has been. Judgement free! 

What can you do now that you couldn’t do before joining?

Lots of things! Double-unders (kinda), kipping pull-ups (also kinda), cleans, snatches, jerks, T2B, box jumps, etc…..
