Athlete Spotlight: Jess B

What made you choose CrossFit True?

Elaine,  Mia and a midlife crisis lol. I was also looking for a healthy and supportive community and social outlet.

How long have you been training with us?

-I’ve been training at the gym for a year and a few months. 

What has been your proudest moment in the past 90 days?

  • Building relationships with my gym buddies and celebrating our accomplishments with drinks and vittles after the WOD. 

When you’re not at the gym, what do you do for work? What do you do for fun?

I am an accountant manager for a software company. Very exciting I know! I work remotely so I have a hard time shutting off. But the gym helps me do that except for when clients book meetings that interfere with my gym schedule.

For fun you can find me fly fishing, hiking, gardening, yard work and by yard work I mean filling in the holes my dogs dug in the yard.

How is your nutrition? How has it changed since joining CrossFit True?

-I’ve always been heavy on the veggies but since joining the gym I’ve realized I need more protein in my diet. But other than that my diet hasn’t changed. I always look forward to grabbing a beer after the 5:45 with anyone willing to join.

What are your 3 favorite movements/exercises? 

Do i really only get to pick 3? -push ups

-overhead squats 

-rowing

-ring rows

I actually love all overhead movements but my right shoulder is messed up.

What is your favorite style workout? (AMRAP, EMOM, Rounds for Time, etc)

-I love me a good EMOM

What about your favorite workout?

  • turkey tabata 

Any favorite workout songs? 

-Cake – Going the distance

Linda and I bonded over our like for Cake!

Have you changed physically or mentally since you’ve been working out with us?

-I feel and look stronger since joining the gym. I love flexing my biseps for my dad. I’m more likely to add more weight, say yes to things instead of the usual “I’m not sure, maybe” overall I am more committed and enthusiastic about the future and unknown.

What are your current goals?

-Right now my goal is to get back to the gym 2-3 days a week which has been a challenge with my new position at work. But I’m working on setting boundaries the best I can, it’s just hard with clients in different time zones. I also want to quit smoking again!!!!

How have your goals changed since you joined? 

  • I’m really trying to prioritize myself in all aspects of life . But primarily trying to find a happy balance between health and work which often work against each other.

What has been the biggest surprise since joining CF True?

  • I love working out even on the days it was a struggle to get to class. The endorphins and gym buddy pressure are real!

What can you do now that you couldn’t do before joining?

  • jump rope, snatch, burpee, lunge, squat, talk to strangers, and carry large rocks to fill in the holes my dogs dig.

Say something else, Anything! 

Well, I’m not sure I can say anything that hasn’t been said before, but CrossFit True has been a really life changer for me. Not only do I feel fit, I have gained an army of people that will cheer me on when I’m the last to finish, encourage me to push harder but not beyond my comfort zone limits. I feel at home when I walk into the gym and that makes me happy.
