What made you choose CrossFit True?
I’m here in CT for a few years while I attend grad school and found True when looking for Crossfit gyms online. Had great reviews and looked like the right fit!
How long have you been training with us?
Just over a year, been doing Crossfit in some form since 2012.
What has been your proudest moment in the past 90 days?
455# deadlift PR in January.
When you’re not at the gym, what do you do for work? What do you do for fun?
I’m currently a grad student at Yale finishing up my MBA. I was in the Army for 8 years before school. In June, we’ll be heading to Philadelphia where I will work as Management Consultant.
Caroline (my wife) and I have four kiddos and so they consume most of my fun time.
How is your nutrition? How has it changed since joining CrossFit True?
Pretty solid. I generally do some form of Lazy Macros (protein target + 800g of fruits/veggies every day). Check out EC Synkowski’s content if you’re interested.
What are your 3 favorite movements/exercises?
Pullups, heavy deadlifts, and running
What is your favorite style workout? (AMRAP, EMOM, Rounds for Time, etc)
Rounds for time
What about your favorite workout?
I love doing Murph. It’s a challenging, well-rounded benchmark that I’ve employed for many years to keep a check on my overall fitness.
Second favorite is Fran. I love a blistering sprint.
Any favorite workout songs?
Anything with a quick beat
Have you changed physically or mentally since you’ve been working out with us?
Mentally I’ve found myself focusing during warm-ups more than at past gyms. The warm-ups at True are the most intentional and well-structured of any gym I’ve been at.
What are your current goals?
Doing a half-marathon in May, aiming to maintain a 7:10/mile pace.
After that, aiming for a sub-33 min Murph which would be a PR for me.
How have your goals changed since you joined?
Honestly, not much. Just keep chugging along at whatever interests me in the short and long term.
What has been the biggest surprise since joining CF True?
How well-structured the warmups are. Can’t say enough about those.
What can you do now that you couldn’t do before joining?
My overhead mobility is much better than before joining. Not really specific, but I’ve felt it recently during OHS
