Athlete Spotlight: Emily

What made you choose CrossFit True?

I was looking to incorporate lifting into my workouts and I found myself doing the same three exercises when working out on my own which wasn’t getting me the results i wanted. 

How long have you been training with us?

It’ll be two years in October

What has been your proudest moment in the past 90 days?

This was my second Murph, and I did all 100 kipping pull ups. Last year I did ring rows and banded pull ups only!

When you’re not at the gym, what do you do for work? What do you do for fun?

I would as a Nurse Practitioner in the Hartford Hospital Cardiac Care Unit (ICU). I love hiking with my dog. I also recently started school for my Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner board certification…because I don’t know how to relax!

How is your nutrition? How has it changed since joining CrossFit True?

I try to maintain a lower carb diet. I eat salads everyday and I actually crave them.

What are your 3 favorite movements/exercises? 

Dumbell Thrusters, Burpees, Pull ups. 

What is your favorite style workout? (AMRAP, EMOM, Rounds for Time, etc)

I love AMRAPs, Tabata style workouts or group workouts. Nothing makes you more accountable than a group workout, love it or hate it.

What about your favorite workout?

I enjoy the long burn workouts, 25 minutes and above!

Any favorite workout songs? 

I listen to a lot of House/Techno when I work out, but I am into everything. Classic favorites are “I Remember” by deadmau5 & Kaskade, “Douha (Mali Mali)” – Disclosure

Have you changed physically or mentally since you’ve been working out with us?

I think I stretched before a workout twice in my life prior to my time at Crossfit True. I think this is an essential part of ensuring safety while lifting. Letting myself take the time to do this has been a big change. I have also appreciated the Crossfit True community so much! It’s so incredible to meet such an open and caring group of people. This is truly what keeps me coming back.

What are your current goals?

Becoming more toned and strong is always the goal!

How have your goals changed since you joined? 

They really have’t changed!

What has been the biggest surprise since joining CF True?

No surprises

What can you do now that you couldn’t do before joining?

Kipping pull ups!
