Athlete Spotlight: Michele

What made you choose CrossFit True?

I was looking to up the ante on my fitness and knew I needed to fit a gym that could keep up with my personal fitness goals! When I met Moe for the first time, saw all the cool equipment and saw the leaderboard on the wall, I knew it was the right place for me. 

How long have you been training with us?

1 year, 3 months! 

What has been your proudest moment in the past 90 days?

I didn’t realize how much my fitness level had increased until I had 2 moments of “Oh! Ok!” First one was  climbing a very steep hill that usually kicks my butt in Vermont, the other was running my first 5k after 5 years. Both times I just did it. I didn’t struggle, I didn’t complain, (well, maybe a little), and I ended each with, “Oh! Ok!” To think that something that once challenged me now required very little effort and was confirmation that I was in a very good spot with my fitness. 

When you’re not at the gym, what do you do for work? What do you do for fun?

I work at an Engineering Firm in the Land Surveying Department. I am training to be  a Project Manager.  

For fun, I craft, paint and design.  I am working on building a stationary company! When I’m not inside, you can find me in my gardens, helping the Coalition For a Sustainable Cheshire, hiking, beaching and exploring the woods.

How is your nutrition? How has it changed since joining CrossFit True?

My nutrition has been great. It’s been the longest stretch of time that I have NOT been on a diet. I am able to eat basically what I want, but have been able to make smarter choices based on my body’s needs. I had been doing Keto right before I started and then during my first class workout I realized really quickly that I couldn’t do anything because I had nothing in me to do it with! I ditched that diet right away and just started to live. 

What are your 3 favorite movements/exercises? 

  • Running
  • Cleans
  • Push Press

What is your favorite style workout? (AMRAP, EMOM, Rounds for Time, etc)

-AMRAP

  • Grace. 

Any favorite workout songs? 

Any Nelly, Puffy or Biggie. 

Have you changed physically or mentally since you’ve been working out with us?

It’s funny how I have not lost any significant weight since I’ve started but I have shrunk in size! I’m toned up and I see actual muscle definition. I’ve gained so much muscle and It feels great!! Mentally, I don’t feel insignificant anymore. My confidence is strong and I know that all the work I have done has made me so much more clear headed. I’ve gained more confidence at work, in public and amongst those other school moms! 

What are your current goals?

-Move more! Find opportunities to get in one more day per week to be active. 

How have your goals changed since you joined? 

  • Yes! At first I cared about achieving one specific thing. Now – All I want to do is stay active, be available for myself and participate in things that challenge me. 

What has been the biggest surprise since joining CF True?

  • The biggest surprise was the community that I found at CF True.  I have really learned to be myself and not worry about the little things. I know that even with my quirkiness, I can find a friend to laugh with, joke with and enjoy a beer with. Well, you all drink the beer, I’ll have that tequila in a can thing…it’s my personality now. 

What can you do now that you couldn’t do before joining?

  • A handstand!! As an adult! Never before did I imagine myself, 40 years old, able to do a handstand. A core memory was made that day!!

I am so grateful to be part of this community!! I’ve grown so much…and not just my muscles!! I’ve gained so much confidence and happiness in my everyday life. I love watching everyone grow with one another and seeing the trust that everyone has for each other. This is truly a safe space to be vulnerable in, and that alone makes me so proud to be part of this outstanding family. xoxo.
